About coconut oil

Coconut palm tree is one of the most useful trees in the world and is often referred as the ‘tree of life’. Its origins are under dispute, as some theories state the tree comes from Asia, South America or even Pacific Islands. Coconut palm trees grow in tropical climates where there is abundant sunlight with regular rainfall and high humidity.

The fruit, coconut, also called Cocos nucifera, is used in many ways, mainly for its water inside, its milk, its oil or its delicious meat.
To get coconut oil, you have to extract from either dried coconut kernels or coconut’s meat. It has a solid consistency when it’s at room temperature, but then becomes liquid when it’s heated.

  • Fights Dandruff

Having dandruff and getting rid of it can be a real challenge. Understanding the cause of it may be the beginning to treat it. Dandruff may be caused by a fungus or yeast on the scalp. As coconut oil has antimicrobial properties, it may be used as part of your dandruff treatment. This can be done by applying coconut oil onto your scalp for five minutes before shampoo.

  • Softer and moisturised hair

Coconut oil has the ability to penetrate your hair shaft deeply, leading to softer and smoother hair and less prone to breakage. Dry and brittle hair would definitely take advantage of the benefits of coconut oil.

  • Softer and moisturised skin

If your skin gets dry, particularly during the cold months of winter, applying coconut oil or a product containing coconut oil can help you to keep your skin moisturised and soft. The fatty acids in coconut oil will act as barrier to retain moisture, preventing your skin to become dry.

  • Acne

However, coconut oil is quite comedogenic, meaning that it can block your pores. Therefore it is not advised to apply coconut oil on your face, especially if you have acne-prone or blemish-prone skin as it may lead to acne breakouts.
